There is no gainsaying the fact that insecurity is a great predicament in any human society and most times, it is predictable. History indicates that insecurity is a continuous process in human relations and may occur within and among groups of communities. In the case of Nigeria, the persistence of insecurity has given Nigerians a cause for concern in recent times. Many wonder why religion which used to be the cohesive factor and core of national unity, peaceful co-existence and national development has become a tool for violence and destruction of lives and property in Nigeria, looking at it from the northern part between 2008 and present insecurity has left adverse effects on the Nigerian economy. This paper reviewed some factors and experiences in Nigeria together with their causes, and effects particularly, on economic development. It also examined religion as a catalyst for enhancing Nigeria's national security and economic development. This book utilized both secondary sources and observation methods. Findings showed that security is endemic in Nigeria. It has also brought forth suspicions of one another and by so doing the socio-economy of the country is on the verge is loosening its norms and values. The study concluded and recommends that religious leaders as a vital figure in society should preach the virtue as coded in the ethics of their religion, also the religious adherent should collaborate with some meaningful and notable NGOs in advocating peace, furthermore sensitizing the youth in that they are the weapon been use by the elite to unleash terror in the society and lastly every religious adherent should pray for the peace of Nigeria
