This piece studied Ala deity in relation to the need for a balance between the worlds of the living and the dead. It argued that "Ala" maintains equilibrium between the land of the living and the land of the dead by harmonizing the activities of human, animals, plants and other deities on the surface of the earth and the ancestral spirits, myriad of disembodied spirits and other personified forces beneath the earth to live peacefully with one another and to help each other to actualise its purpose on earth. The phenomenological method of inquiry was employe during the course of this research.
